Optimism
Monday, February 6th, 2006“As a human being, you are a collection of many things: skin, bones, brains, experience and emotion. But more than all of that, you are your expectations. That’s why I choose to be an optimist.” - Scott Adams

Happy New Year and many happy returns to all three readers of my blog
I have never been one for resolutions but this year I have decided to make just the one, it’s probably a bit ambitious but sure if i’m going to break a resolution it might as well be a whopper!!
Resolution Create a very useful webservice, market it and document the results in this blog!
I have a couple of Ideas already but I would realisticaly say it will be March before anything comes to fruition.
What are your resolutions?
Well I have been tagged by Janine to complete this and since I’m only blogging a very short time this is my first Meme (thanks Janaine :p)
The instructions are:
* Search your blog archive
* Find your 23rd post
* Find the fifth sentence - this is meant to say something about you
* Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions
* Tag five people to do the same
Well my 23rd post on 15th September 2005 and it was about a security vunerability in Firefox 1.0.x (oh dear god i’m such a geek!!!)
Sentence number 5 reads:
“Meaning, Firefox appends 0 to approxLen and then appends the long string of dashes to the buffer instead.”
So we are all in agreement that I am a big geek with a liking for Open Source software and an interest in all things internet(the shame of it all).
So i’m not a big fan of tagging others but what the hell, lets see their results :
Ok so this is a little thing I have been meaning to do for a while. I will post a picture of something I see on the way to work everyday. Since I live in Sallins I will have a lot of photo’s I can take(This could be a looooong series).

The Odlum Flour and Oatmeal Silos
When I walk out the door of my house and walk up towards the train station I see these every morning. They look so different each day depending on the sky behind them. The day I took this photo the sky was very overcast. So I decided to convert it to greyscale to emphasise the “greyness” of the image. Somedays the sky is blue the silos look totally different. I like the photo and I might post the full sized image in the gallery this evening.
Well it’s the big day! Ireland Vs France at Lansdowne Rd.
I have recently started to work up the road from Lansdowne Road and I am really excited about the game tonight. I was curious about what happens the day of the game so I went out at lunch and took some photos. The anwser is quite simply … Nothing, at least nothing you can see from outside the grounds. There are a lot of vans going in and out of the grounds but nothing really outside except some barriers and a few extra Garda.
So anyway tonight for those of you not in the know is a huge game in terms of Irelands chances of qualifying for the World Cup in Germany 2006 If we win tonight we will have a very good chance of qualifying from group 4. I can’t wait to see how this game goes
. Here is another picture of the East stand I took today. Everyone cross your fingers!
So after a month of doing nothing I am finally back working. I have been moved to Lansdowne Rd. I’m currently on a test team for a fairly major website but should be moving to the development team in the near future. I can see the stadium out the window. I will take some photos tomorrow.
Well I discussed the situation with the other half last night, she seemed more excited about it then I do. I sometimes feel like a bit of a homebird, prefering to sit in the house, watch my favourite TV shows and mess about on the internet. But I know that it would be a good experience to get out and do this, even if I do have to leave my cushy house.
Laziness more then anything is keeping me from wanting to do it.
I guess it’s time to get up off my lazy ass and give it a try.
I came into work this morning expecting to have nothing to do for the day as usual! But my manager called me aside and asked me “How would you like to go to Holland for 9-12 months on a project?” Now i’m only working here in this place about a month, I have basically done nothing yet! Then to come up and ask me to do this.
I’m conflicted about this I have to admit, I just bought a house 4 months ago. My girlfriend has just got a new job and seems quite settled now. But I will talk to her about it this evening.
Also I will be paid practically twice my current salary while I am over there, free flight home every weekend, Apartment paid for and all bills paid.
But the downside is obviously being away from home for so long.
I have recently started a new job(3 weeks ago) and I have spent two and a half of those weeks sitting around doing nothing! I’m actually starting to get bored of the internet (que noises of shock). The new place has a “restrictive” internet policy with forums, game sites, etc.. all blocked! I’m still waiting to be assigned to a project.
So I have taken to writing in my blog and reading lots of other blogs!
Photoblogs are something I am quite fond of and I’m thinking of starting my own soon. Dublin City is a beautiful place to work and there are a lot of interesting things to photograph.
Here are a couple of photoblogs I like to view everyday
Chromasia : is a photoblog of Blackpool, England.
Daily dose of imagery : a canadian photographer with a great eye
I was in my back garden this morning and the girlfriend was feeding the fish in the pond. We have a Koi and two goldfish, well I thought that was all we had, but as She fed the fish a weird white fish with whiskers like a catfish and no eyes! came up and started eating the food!! Now I was fairly weirded out by this as you can imagine. To clarify when I moved into this house the pond was already here from the previous owner (as were the fish), but the previous owner told me there were only three fish. I don’t know what it is or how it got there.
I have asked on a few forums and searched the web for any sign of what it is, but I can’t find any pictures that even resemble it.
The next time I see it I will get a photo. But Damn is it ugly!
