Ed, good point. There’s a trade-off between high rankings and a readable homepage. Better to have compelling content, and then put on your search engine optimiser’s hat.

Like the article, it pretty much covers all the relevant ground. I would say that meta tags are even more pointless than you pointed out! For the title tag, we find that 80 characters, spaces included, is a good start. Title tag and on-page text are the most important factors there. But links are getting more and more important. 5 quality links from relevant sites can be better than 100 links from stupid sources.

didn’t know you were a seo geek ed! that’s a very useful list of tips alright…

for the lazy out there who want maximum impact for minimum effort, the title tag is where it’s at (as far as google goes anyways…)
