Game Week 2 August 22, 2006
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , trackbackWell gameweek 2 is upon us very quickly and not all teams are playing midweek.
Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal and Wigan do not play this gameweek so any players you have from those teams will not score you any points.
I have to admit I picked quite a few players from three of those teams at the very begining. Why? I hear you ask! Well the way I saw it was, if I were to leave out the players I wanted from all those 4 teams at the begining, then it would have taken me at least 5-6 gameweeks to get them in after this. So i picked a bench of players that play all the time to minimise the “damage”.
Kenny, Ifill, Tonge and Pearce are usually first team selections. Which means only one of my players will not play this week. Sure I may loose a few points over the first couple of weeks, but I will be better placed for the lung run of games from gameweek 4 onwards.
Here is my team for the coming gameweek

Out
Jamie Carragher Injured his ankle on Saturdays opener and is due to be out for 3-4 weeks. The key member of the Liverpool defence.
In
Wayne Bridge Looked very lively against Manchester City and at only £4.6 million is by far the best value Chelsea defender if he plays.
Captain of the week
Andreiv Shevchenko The 29 year old is one of the deadliest strikers in the last 20 years. He showed his class against Liverpool in the Community shield with deadly finishing for his goal. It’s only a matter of time before he finds his scoring touch in the premiership, with Middlesbrough looking fragile at the back, it’s a risk i’m willing to take.
Players to consider
As stated before, Wayne Bridge would be a good buy this week, very cheap and playing in what was the best defence in the league last season. Other players to look at are Louis Saha who looks to start a lot of games for Man Utd this season, Bobby Zamora with Dean Ashton out for 12 weeks he will be looking to start a lot of games, Matt Taylor in the game as a defender but looks to be playing as a winger this season (usually takes the pompey penaltys too). Other members of the Portsmouth Defence may be worth a look also.

Great site, I have to say. I’m pretty happy with my team so far, but could be in trouble if liverpool and arsenal start to improve.
My team as of week 2
Vandersar
Mellberg Carvalho Dawson Taylor Gabbidon
Ronaldo Lampard
Berbatov Saha Zamora
Have 5 mil in the bank so will probably get henry next week, as it scares me that others in my league have him (where we have a money pool for the winner). I will probably also get rid of gabbidon for a second pompey defender.
Zamora was going to be merely a money maker, but as he scored again I am starting to think of him as a serious choice, does anyone know anything about him? Can he keep up this form?
Any suggestions on improving my team?
Zamora will probably continue to start for W Ham while Ashton is out injured. He will probably start with Harewood like they did for some of the season last year, however with Cole they have an extra option up front so it will be interesting to see how many games Zamora starts in. Im sure if he keeps scoring Pardew wont drop him. Teddy Sheringham will be used as a sub only I reckon, and a pretty good one at that.
I like your team Aussiejezza, looks strong up front. Only suggestion I have on improving your team would be to maybe drop one of your backmen for another attacking midfielder such as a Timmy Cahill. This is only because I dont like to use too many defenders in my team, usually just 3 or 4. What is everyone else’s opinion of this?
I have Berbatov also, he could be a very cheap version of Henry if you pick him up now and he perfoms the way people think he will. A lot of pundits think that he could win the league’s top scorer award this year. If you were to stick with him rather than Henry you could shoot to the front of your league if he goes well and have enough in the bank to purchase that attacking midfielder…..
My team for this week was:
Van Der Sar
Campbell Bridge A.Ferdinand
Lampard(c) Cahill O’Shea P.Neville Bowyer
Berbatov Zamora
still have Henry on the bench and 3 million in the bank, what do you think? Was unsure who to have as captain and went with Lampard over Berbatov, need Lampard to score now!!
it’s been great thus far, hasn’t it? there’s so much value i’m like a kid in a sweet shop.
Berbatov is a funny one – I remember him going to the Stadio Olympico in Rome to play against Roma for Leverkusen, and he put in one of the best individual performances I’ve ever seen – I think he scored a hattrick. They still replay the third goal a lot as I recall – he flicks it over the centre half’s head and delicately dinks it over the keeper from the apex of the six yard box while running at pace – pure class.
Now – is he going to go ballistic? I can’t quite decide who to run with. Martins is another one I like, but then there’s so much value amongst the forwards. I still think Henry is a must – whenever I drop him it backfires on me. He’s available for 0.1 less right now by the way.
yeah, im the same re Henry, I will stick with him all year I think. He is always able to score goals out of nothing and on his night he is one of the best in the world. I will stick with him, Bertatov and Zamora for a while upfront, I can’t see their values doing anything apart from going up for the next few weeks (apart from Henry going down 0.1 this week, probably due to people trading him as Arsenal are not playing in Gameweek 2.)
I’m going to wait and see if anyone gets injured tonight before I make my choice.
Berbatov looks a class act. Hopefully Sheva will come good tonight
Man U have been great so far for my fantasy team with saha getting 2 goals and 3 assists and ronaldo getting a goal and 2 bonus points. Not sure what to do for a captain in week 3. Might have my captain as ronaldo as he has had 17 shots in 2 games, not bad. Sureley even the most hated man in the world can score if he keeps shooting that much.
i tip watford to have a hard time containing his trickery.
Did anyone see Duff’s performance last night? When Martins gets into that side, Duff is going to be one for the watchlist.
I’m still amazed at how slow the transfer market is – some of the players have put in good scores on consecutive weeks (Saha, James, Bridge) but their prices aren’t moving as much (at least not yet).
