Transfer Wild Card Played August 28, 2006

Posted by Ed in : General, fantasy footy , trackback

I have played my Transfer Wild Card.

With the international break coming and my team not making the impact I expected I have played the wildcard in a bid to A) choose some form players B) make some quick cash.

I have brought in most of the players who done really well this week, so I hope the cashflow improves.

Has anyone else played it yet?

indeed i did ed - it’s paid off pretty well for me thus far in value terms (although i’ve stupidly missed the fact that the Liverpool v Newcastle game is re-scheduled for gameweek 5, and sold Scott Parker this week after the villa game - they just looked flat, and i didn’t fancy them as a side until they ‘click’ with Martins, you know?

anyway, it’s a good idea if you use it at the death to slot in a few likely points certs (Gerrard has to be a shoe-in I guess) although their other fixture is against Chelsea, so it could be a toughie.

pompey were incredible this evening i thought - the workrate was fantastic. the only worry is that he wants players before the transfer deadline on thursday - i guess this is a good time to play the wildcard from that perspective - it could affect the likes of Bridge, Primus, and Stefanovic if bigger names come in to replace them.

what do you reckon to Boulharouz guys? likely to play regularly? i hope the cole deal falls through!

So what is your new team?

I will be very interested as our teams seem very similar. Does everyone still advocate getting henry, even after this terrible start. I have looked t a their upcoming run of games and think he may be a good buy for my 6 mil in the bank. I had intended the 6 mil to buy gerrard but he will probably get a red card against the toffees, if history has taught us anything.

Berbatov out -> Henry in

Berbatov is a great player, but playing deep, and keane getting a lot of the ball seems to be affecting him.

this might affect Berbatov too:

i liked Mido last year, but the striker rotation always did my head in at spurs… there are some good transfer stories brewing just now - Trezegol to Man U, Buffon to Arsenal, Tevez to Arsenal…

Yeah, I expect to see a few new signings over the next few days.

AussieJezza, I will post me new team when I get home, as I don’t have access to fantasy.premierleague.com in work :( .

But I put in players like, Lampard, James, Kanu, Francis, Bullard, Darren Bent, etc..

Plenty of changes and lots of money too, my team has gone up by £0.5million since last night!

I will post a screencap as soon as I get home.

Cool, sounds like some shrewd moves in there. I especially like Bullard and Kanu. As money is so tight this year, it is the bargain buys that will win it for teams.

I also am contemplating trading zamora for kanu

6. Roy - August 30, 2006

there’s word that harry redknapp’s buying jermain defoe - it could be worth holding off for a day or two until the transfer deadline passes…

7. Roy - August 30, 2006

by the way - pompey have signed manuel fernandes, who’s a good makelele-style enforcer from Benfica. their defenders are looking fantastic value to hold for the season.

8. Ben - August 30, 2006

Henry has not had a remarkable start, but looking at the games coming up for Arsenal (Middlesborough, Man U, Sheff Utd), I think he has a decent chance of scoring some goals. Besides, you want to have him in your team because he is a top goal scorer … and if he’s in … you may have more points than everyone else. But investing in Saha is extremely logical given his workrate. Yet another striker who is proving himself is Kanu - formerly of Arsenal.

What do you guys think of James - the Pompey keeper??

Ed, interesting to see you used your Transfer Wildcard. I believe I first mentioned using it during these current gameweeks in your ‘Quick Buy Alert!’ post a few weeks back, and your words in post 7 were:

‘However it may also be worth noting that the 12 day gameweek usually stops people buying for a few days. You don’t want to buy a player at the begining of an international break and they come back from international duty injured.’

ha-ha….. will be interested to see how you go, hopefully you can make a bit of coin, but to do so you need the players value to go up by atlease 0.2 to compensate for the sell on value (if you were planning on a quick buy to sell plan..)

I am going to keep using my trades for now, I have used 8 so far and although I have lost points for these trades I have a strong team at teh moment and players who’s values are increasing, Bridge was the best buy…..

I will be saving my Transfer Wildcard for around gameweek 14 - 17 where there is one week where only 12 teams play and the next week where 8 teams play twice, and then 2 teams place twice the week after that also.

Let us know how you go with your trades Ed and whether you make much money!

10. Roy - August 31, 2006

boooo - harry’s signing Niko Kranjcar (bloke who left the Croatian world cup squad because of allegations of nepotism - his Dad was the coach) and he’s a defender/midfielder.

the next few weeks are going to be interesting at Pompey - we’ll see who stays in the starting line up. I don’t know if there’ll be room for Stefanovic and Primus with Fernandes and Kranjcar in the squad…

[...] As Nic pointed out in the comments of the Quick Buy Alert post I said ‘However it may also be worth noting that the 12 day gameweek usually stops people buying for a few days. You don’t want to buy a player at the begining of an international break and they come back from international duty injured.’ [...]

Stefanovic will play I think. He is taking some free kicks and I am fairly certain he is the captain.

13. James - September 1, 2006

i havent been doing very well in the early weeks of fantsay footy. So i thought i would use my wildcard and change my team around. Instead i saw that liverpool play twice in a week, which means their points will double, that is something to think about.

I may trade shevchenko for rooney since shevchenko has scored 1 goal from 3 games and rooney got 2 goals from one game, and an assist. Or i might get someone like parker who is cheap and have 2 games in gameweek 5 also its one to think about.

14. craig - September 14, 2006

is there anyway you can retrieve a wild card in anyway some4body has bin onto my fantasy and changed my whole team around

15. jezz - December 22, 2006

i used my wildcard gamweek 4 and regret it. although in top 5,000, i now have 4 players injured……and have had to make 5 transfers - partly to try to get through the first round of this fantasy cup……..
