Game Week 5 September 15, 2006
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , trackbackWell with all the excitement of the champions league in midweek, Gameweek 5 has kind of crept up on us! Last week I got 51 points which was an improvement on the week gameweek 3.
Firstly a word on our league leader, Dave Joyce continues to lead with 233 points, but is only 2 points ahead of Aya Kamiki a new addition to the fpl blog league. Maybe the lead could change hands this weekend?
This is my team for this week.

Out
Jimmy Bullard Got a bad injury (dislocated kneecap, Ouch!) in the game against Newcastle at the weekend and looks set to miss the rest of the season. So, pretty much a forced change.
In
Scott Parker Since taking over as captain of Newcastle has come on leaps and bounds, with plenty of all-action displays. This year he has been instructed to get forward more and has scored a couple of great goals and got 6 bonus points from three games.
Captain of the week
Scott Parker Playing two games this game week and has looked a real goal threat so far this season.
Buy of the week
Tim Cahill Looks back to the form of the 04/05 season, a goal scoring midfielder worth having in any team.
Players to Consider
Bobby Zamora Just can’t stop scoring goals, Alan Pardew will be hard pushed to leave him out of the West Ham side until his blistering form dies down.
Louis Saha Scored two great goals midweek against Celtic. His partnership with Wayne Rooney is really starting to flourish. Could be worth the money.
Jermaine Jenas Scored for Spurs in Europe and has become a vital component in Martin Jols team.
Andy Johnson Another player showing the kind of form he was in during the 04-05 season, as Alex Ferguson pointed out last week, “He could be the bargain of the season.
Steven Gerrard Playing twice this game week and was rested for the Champions League game against PSV. A sure starter on Sunday.
The Pompey Defence The only team not to concede a goal yet this season and with Tony Adams coaching players like Sol Cambell, David James, Linvoy Primus and Glenn Johnson this form could continue for a while to come. Playing a poor Charlton side this weekend, real bargain players at the minute.
Gamble of the Week
Luke Moore Aston Villa is playing Watford at the weekend and Moore has looked the part since becoming a regular starter under Martin O’Neil. Worth a punt? You decide.

Nice change. I have rated parker even before the season started, now if only i had followed my gut instinct and picked him. As captain this week though, it does worry me that he picked up nock last week and then played a full uefa game last night. My captain is gerrard this week, mainlybecause I know all the others in my league will have him as captain and I fear him having a blinder despite recent form.
I like Aurelio from liverpool as well. Has played full minuites (many as a midfeilder) and behind gerrard has the highest number of shots this season (although most of the shots were rubbish). For those that have him and are trailing in their league it is worth a shot to take a risk and have him as captain.
It seems that zamora and saha are here to stay, after i picked them just to make some money, they just keep scoring. Might still get rid of zamora for kanu, but saha looks the business, especially now rooney is back for him to send a few assists to
Ed, you have a very balanced team this gameweek. But would it be better to field bridge ahead of dunne? chelsea looks more likely to get clean sheet to me.
The midfield and forward combination couldn’t be any stronger. Perhaps it’s down to the choice of captain. I do not dare to bank on Parker. Newcastle have two tough away trip and it’s very hard for them to score. I’ll try someone who’s play at home.
Giggs’ injury made my team weaker. Now I have to bank on my strikers to score for me. This could be a tough gameweek for me. Maybe it’s still not my time to challenge to top place.
Or should I risk another transfer to offload Giggs?…
AussieJezza, Yeah I have seen Aurelio recently and he is looking like he may start to score some goals, plus he seems to be Rafa Benitez’s choice for left sided free kicks.
I decided against Gerrard as Captain purely based on his recent form and the fact that Benitez is very likely to start him on the bench for one of the games due to Liverpool having 3 games in 6 days.
Fred, I think Bridge has started his last game for Chelsea until Ashley Cole get’s an Injury. Plus I think Dunne has being playing superbly and with Hamann fit Man City will be very hard to Break down, even for Blackburn.
Wow, so many clean sheets last night. I only had one portsmouth defender this week which has hurt me a little, but with their tough run of games coming up, i think theirclean sheets will die down a little.
the cahill/johnson bandwagon seems to keep going, which leaves me in a quandry, do i get rid of saha or johnson in order to bring henry back
