Game Week 8 October 11, 2006

Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , trackback

Well I left it too long after the holidays to get back into the fantasy football. The international break has given us a few shock international results (and thats an understatement)!

Dave Joyce is still top of the league, the fantastic week that young at Watford had helped with that, keeping Dave just ahead of Aya Kamiki who is a close second.

Last game week I didn’t do too well and only got 38 points, mostly due to having Andy Johnson as captain.
This is my team for this week.

Game Week 8 team

So we will look at some of the players who have done well during the International week.

Captain of the week

Christiano Ronaldo In incredible form lately very consistent this season so far, worth a shot for me.Christiano Rondalo

Buy of the week

Christiano Ronaldo Scored two for portugal at the weekend and has been in sensational form for Manchester United this season. A really good alternative to the dissapointing Steven Gerrard for only £0.1 million more.

Players to Buy

Leighton Baines Looked really good for the England U-21’s scored a cracker and setup one for Walcott in the return leg against Germany last night. A very good young player who has played every minute for his club so far this season and at £4.3 million is good value for money. A word of warning though Wigan are playing Man United this weekend and the likelyhood of a cleansheet is slim.

The French Trio Thierry Henry, Louis Saha and Nicholas Anelka all scored this evening. Henry is coming back to full fitness, Anelka needed the match and Saha is scoring regularly for both club and country. Any of the three are good buys, I do expect Anelka to get back to top form very soon.

Milan Baros scored twice at the weekend and got another good run out tonight. With Luke Moore out until at least christmas expect Baros to take his place.

Richard Dunne scored on saturday but despite Irelands dismall performance I expect him to be in top form against Sheffield United.

Robin Van Persie Arsene Wenger seems to have gotten RVP’s temper under control and has molded him into a fine player who contributes goals and assists to Arsenel a good player to think about.

Gamble of the week

Theo Walcott a bit of a gamble this one, played brilliantly over both legs against Germany. He may get his chance this weekend, but a gamble.

Hi Ed, hi guys…

What do you all reckon about Hilario? Chelski have a brilliant run of games coming up, and Hilario only costs 4.8 million. The question is, are the other two goalies going to be out for a while?

Gareth Barry is doing really well, as is Cahill - was gutted with Ronaldo not playing today, but Thierry Henry and the Pompey boys are doing well again.

2. fred (aya kamiki) - October 15, 2006

good!! that makes the title challenge more interesting. now maybe is the time to sell chelsea defend…ha ha ha.

only cost 4.8M?? that’s a lot man!! (though a little to chelsea). he surely had impressed mourinho to be able to come to chelsea. but i doubt anyone would buy him before knowing how long the two will be out of action for.

3. Ed - October 15, 2006

I can’t believe that Ronaldo didn’t play this weekend! what a nightmare :o

Cost me dearly, since the rest of my team done reasonably well.

Looks like Cech could be out for a while, Cudichini could be back for next weekend though, It would be a good buy to get Hilario if we knew for sure he was going to be playing for a week or two.

I’m going to have to think about wether to buy Henry again or not?

4. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 16, 2006

Well after 4 players on my team didnt play last week I made 3 changes only for 2 of those changes not to play this week (eboue, ashley cole)

Well it really has made things in my pool even, after 2 shocking weeks. I must resist the temptation to make another 3 changes and stick to one.

5. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 16, 2006

Any opinions on Baines from wigan?
He’s only 4.3 and got a goal last week, so I am thinking of getting him and keeping him for wigans run of 4 games in 2 weeks coming up.

6. Ed - October 16, 2006

Hey AussieJezza,
Yeah I tipped him before this gamweek, he seems to be in great form and scoring goals too!

Wigan have a few low/midtable clashes coming up so he is definately worth the punt.

Ed

7. fred (aya kamiki) - October 16, 2006

well, maybe he can score against MC but still he’s not the best choice for long term plan. Might lost to fulham and bolton in following matches. Suitable for managers who is short of transfer money.

8. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 18, 2006

Take a look at Jason Euell. He plays in an advanced position, and at 4.8 he’s probably in the same ballpark as Damien Francis in value terms. he’s gaining in fitness, and he slotted in some interesting slide rule balls to Yakubuthat easily could have ended in goals, and therefore assists. And he got another assist this week

9. Roy Henderson - October 21, 2006

Euell is definitely on my watchlist Aussiejezza - he seems to be getting full games - that’s the only thing I’d want to be sure of.

I’m definitely slotting in Cudicini - 5 million for the best part of a season’s worth of Chelsea goalie is a snip in value terms!

10. Roy Henderson - October 21, 2006

By the way Aussiejezza - I’m sure I read that Euell comment somewhere before ;-)

11. Roy Henderson - October 21, 2006

Another 9 for Leighton Baines eh?

They have two consecutive double headers coming up (after a week without a game). Great shout AussieJezza, Ed :-)

12. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 25, 2006

Nice pick Roy, yes it was from there, but I thought I’d spread the advice.

BTW with Viduka now injured, do you think Euell or Maccarone will partner Yakubu?

13. Wong Yik Han - October 26, 2006

Just wondering,is Johan Djorou a sure starter for Arsenal?

14. Roy Henderson - October 26, 2006

Hi Wong - It’s been confirmed that Lauren won’t be fit until the new year, and he’s certainly played himself in alongside Kolo Toure, but you’d think Senderos would play if he gets fit eh? Or if Clichy gets fit, maybe Gallas would move in to centre half?

I’m not sure about Maccarone Jezza, but it definitely makes Euell’s starting slot more solid, doesn’t it? I like him as a pick but the way the stats are shaping up there are some amazing picks available in the midfield elsewhere.

I’m even thinking of doing the unthinkable and offloading Lampard!!

15. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 27, 2006

Thx Roy, I’ll leave Euell on the bench at this stage and see what happens.

Might have to get rid of my man Citeh keeper this week, as by all reports they were dreadfull in their last outing. However something tells me that “psycho” will stomp out their defensive problems with a big win this week (hmmmm, what to do).

I’m very tempted to buy taylor from pompey, but does anyone know if he is taking kicks?

Had him at the start of the season, but heard a few bad reports that he was in a rough patch.

16. fred (aya kamiki) - October 27, 2006

Damn, when u talk about lampard i feel depressed!! i sold scholes for lampard and scholes instantly scored for MU!!! shit shit shit

17. Roy Henderson - October 27, 2006

LOL I always do that. I’m going to start betting on the players I sell to score. We’ll be millionaires!!

I reckon Taylor it’s only a matter of time before Matty Taylor scores Jezza - he’s not playing every game because he’s being used in left midfield, and they have a lot of midfielders to accomodate at Pompey, and he’s also cover when someone at the back gets injured or suspended. The back five are all fit again though so it’s not certain he’ll always start.

He’s hit the woodwork a couple of times this season if memory serves and he’s getting into the box a lot - he could have already had a couple. If it wasn’t for the other Pompey defenders being so cheap I’d definitely buy him - a defender that gets forward is rare - they usually re-categorise them as midfielders (like Riise or Zeige).

18. fred (aya kamiki) - October 31, 2006

Richard Dunne save my day!! My dream come true finally! had it not for him, I would be getting an embarassing score for this dismal week, having selling my 3 weeks captain rooney for an injured “dogbra”…

19. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - October 31, 2006

Thats tough Fred

I too have been hammered after the last 4 gameweeks with injuries, players not playing (I’m talking to you cashley cole), and the ability to transfer out players who end up having a blinder the week I get rid of them (Ronaldo, Saha, and Jaskelinen have all done it to me). I’ve turned from having a +40 point lead in my league to being relegated to the mid table, but don’t worry mate, there is a long way to go.

20. Roy Henderson - October 31, 2006

By the way boys… Huddlestone Huddleston Huddlestone for the watch list.

If he plays regularly for 90 minutes, we have a bargain.

21. Roy Henderson - October 31, 2006

Saying that, Zokora has been out, hasn’t he? Is Huddlestone only getting a short-term run?

22. fred (aya kamiki) - October 31, 2006

Hell, you are right! but with spurs coming gameweek against chelsea(h) and reading(a), they look more likely to concede goals. Better take the right time to invest on him. at 4.1 he’s certainly one of the value player. but for an addition of 1.0 i can get a buch of player better than huddlestone. thus i wouldn’t consider buying him right now.

anyway, i dun think he can play any longer. spurs won’t try to play 5-3-2- whole season, would they?

It’s just so nice to be back on the runner-up spot. But the top spot has changed person! It looked a bad week for the leaders, with only 47pts, 3 below average. The defence looks shaky, but the attacking options is very great. gotta work harder to ge past him!!

23. fred (aya kamiki) - October 31, 2006

I also wish to thank the host Ed for recommending Dunne to me. Really save my team’s blushes. Now I figured it’s really a great invest.

24. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - November 2, 2006

This week is going to be a tricky one for captain choices, with the big 4 having played champions league matches over the week. I had origionally pegged my captain choice as Henry, however after watching him squander chance after chance against moscow, I’m not sure.

What are your thoughts on captains for week 11?

25. fred (aya kamiki) - November 2, 2006

Losing faith on Wazza has cost me some 6000 places in the ranking….this time I’ll keep faith on him no matter what!! Lamps, sorry for this time!

26. Roy Henderson - November 3, 2006

By the way, ten weeks in, the stats start to tell wee stories.

The best defender, year in and year out, is John Terry - he consistently scores above 5 points per game season in and season out, and he plays most games.

But sometimes clever things happen. In the season West Ham were relegated, David James had an average year; but when you dug deeper, you realised that if you only played him on the weeks West Ham were at home, he averaged higher than any other goalie.

So this year, here’s the points per game (PPG) stats for Richard Dunne, Micah Richards, and Nicky Weaver:

Dunne - 8.6 PPG
Richards - 6.4 PPG
Weaver - 6.4 PPG

Not bad eh? Dunne is a good shout even as an ever present, but if you played him on the home weeks and another value players on the other weeks, your average PPG for very little combined cost is pretty good!

I’m gonna keep digging on this stat and see what we find out. Will keep you posted.

Terry has averaged 6 points per game over the season by the way, but only 5.6 at home.

28. fred (aya kamiki) - November 4, 2006

home match definitely holds some advantages over the opponents. I always choose a player while he’s at home….but this doesn’t work for the top 4 teams.

29. Roy Henderson - November 6, 2006

That was an interesting week - Man United were incredible again (made me wish I had Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs, and Vidic all in my team), and Arsenal just lack something right now. they have a double header coming up in gameweek 17 though so I’m reluctant to get rid of Thierry - whenever I’ve done it in the past he’s bounced back and scored 20 points the following week…

The stat-o-meter says Vidic is the king of all defenders and he’s cheap as chips. Baines is also doing well (as are all the other Wigan defenders), and Wigan have two double weeks in gameweeks 16 and 17, albeit they don’t play in gameweek 15.

Diawara is making a massive difference to Charlton (although Micah Richards played an absolute blinder and was unlucky not to notch two at the Valley - how he doesn’t get more bonus points is beyond me), Claus Jensen is making a massive difference to Fulham (imagine if Bullard was still fit too), Ashley Young is still defying gravity (although they have some tough games ahoy), and with Terry facing a suspension, does this mean a revival for Bridge?

And Gerrard - is this the turning point for him? He always makes a ten week surge up the rankings scoring about 9 points a game - he just needs to turn the corner doesn’t he?

Brilliant week - it was really fascinating :-))

30. fred (aya kamiki) - November 6, 2006

the coming GW has become a headache for me!! I jus dunno what to do in the transfer!! Ridgewell didn’t play last game, does that mean he is dropped from now on? and my favourite team — the Magpies had just produced the biggest dissapointment so far…..lost to newcomers Sheffield United. I think everyone will be jus as desperate as me to offload Parker. Ivan Campo looks a good buy, but Bolton are facing tough fixture soon. and I still dun hav much faith in Watford’s ability (Ashley Young). more ever, i am lack of transfer money….and everyone’s performing at MU, except the much dissapointing Rooney…

31. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - November 6, 2006

What about everton? I’m seriously thinking of offloading either Cahill or Johnson…any thoughts?

32. Aussiejezza- aka sheffield owls - November 6, 2006

Also does anyone know what the deal is with the chelsea keepers? Will cuducuni play?

33. fred (aya kamiki) - November 8, 2006

I’ve bought Cahill and Johnson since first GW…..it will be hard for me to sell them as I’ve earn a lot value from them…also they are not top in the scoreing chart.
