Posted by Ed in : General , 2 commentsLast year I started with good intentions of carrying on the FPL posts week in week out.
This season I’m starting from the very begining and I will keep it going all season (I’m determined this time, I think).
Expect some posts on transfers going on at the moment, pre-season friendly results and players performing well so far in pre-season.
Over the next few weeks I will also post a couple of guides to improving your cash flow and getting the best team for your money, stay tuned.

Transfer of the week
Out
Reo Coker Has been injured for several weeks and West Ham are not playing quite so well
In
Darren Ambrose Lost his place in the Charlton team early in the season because of a Red Card, now he is back in and finding his goal scoring from.
Captain of the week
Frank Lampard Shortlisted for world player of the year (alongside Ronaldinho and E’to) and has also taken the record for most consecutive apperances in the premiership (from David James). Who wouldn’t want him as captain?
Buy of the week

Robin Van Persie The man just cannot stop scoring at the moment. In superb form and repaying Wengers faith in him.
Other players to consider
Yobo I know Everton haven’t had the greatest start to the season but they do seem to be finding their feet. Yobo is also showing the ability that he has promised since arriving on Merseyside. Bargin buy at 4.3 million (at time of writing). Not to mention that Everton have two games coming up in gameweek 16.
Thierry Henry If you haven’t bought him yet and you can afford him, buy him now!
Xavi Alonso controlled the midfield against Sunderland on Wednesday, looks like he is really getting to grips with the Premiership.
Gamble player of the week
Julian Gray with Birmingham not exactly firing on all cylinders this may not be the best gamble I have recommended, but Gray has scored two gaols in two games and should get the full 90 minutes on Monday.
Game Week 14 Review
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , add a commentGameweek 14 is all over and done now, Liverpool continued their great run of form and kept two clean sheets this game week.
Having Jaime Carragher as captain netted me 24 points this week, however other players haven’t done quite so well.
Drogba has not played for two weeks so was substituted for Chimbonda who once again conceded on Wigans tough run into christmas continues.
Lampard is consistent as ever, Henry continues his spectacular form on recovering from injury.
All my other players underachieved for the week, which has not helped me gain on the leading pack.

Game week 14 preview November 25, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 1 comment so farWell this is the first double gameweek we have had this season and by double gameweek I mean some teams are playing twice (Sunderland and Liverpool).
Liverpool have been in good form lately and have a superb defensive record, if you are going to buy a player this week then perhaps Carragher, Hyypia or Gerrard would be good choices from Liverpool.
From a Sunderland point of view Dean Whitehead takes all the corners and penaltys so may be worth the money.
Something for all fantasy managers to keep in their heads is that quite a few players will be leaving the premiership to play in the African cup of nations in the new year. Don’t buy more African players then you can transfer out before the Competition starts.
This weeks fixtures
Saturday, 26th November
Arsenal – Blackburn
Aston Villa – Charlton
Sunderland – Birmingham
Man City – Liverpool
Wigan - Tottenham
Portsmouth – ChelseaSunday, 27th November
Everton – Newcastle
Fulham – Bolton
Middlesbro – West Brom
West Ham – Man UtdWednesday, 30th November
Sunderland – Liverpool
Transfer of the week
Out
Rooney Rooney at 11 million can be worth the money on occassion, but really is not performing week in week out.
In
Henry Back from injury the Arsenal captain is back to his usual devestating form, scoring 4 goals in 2 games in the premiership. The question is not “can you afford Henry?” the real question is “Can you afford not to have Henry?”
Captain of the week
Jamie Carragher Playing two games this week and if he keeps two clean sheets will net me 24 points.
Buy of the week

Yakubu Yakubu has scored 7 gaols in 12 premiership games for middlesbrough this season and looks set to continue his fine goal scoring form of recent years in the premiership. Yakubu is also getting assists and bonus points. A great striker for those who can’t afford the likes of Henry, Owen and Drogba.
Other players to consider
Liverpool and Sunderland Players with the teams playing twice you have a good chance of scoring high points if you go for one of the on form players from Liverpool(defenders or Gerrard) or Sunderland(Whitehead)
Thierry Henry Scored another two goals last weekend against Wigan (who have the best defensive record in the league). Set to continue his scintilating form, worth it if you can afford him.
Gamble player of the week
Colins Mebsuma will Portsmouth caretaker manager Joe Jordan throw him into the fray? Mebsuma scored 49 goals in all competitions last year for the Kaiser Chiefs in South Africa. Alain Perrin brought him in but thought he was “too fat” and placed him on a serious training program to get him upto speed for the Premiership. Now Perrin is gone and Mebusama is ready to make an impact, will he get his chance at the weekend?
Game Week 13 Review November 24, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 25 commentsThe Bolton -Vs- Birmingham game was called off this week(due to fog) and for some managers this may have impacted their scores. I was lucky this week as I did not have any Bolton players in my team.
Some results this week did not go my way as I have had an average week. Spurs conceded a late goal against West Ham costing me 4 points and Arsenal -Vs- Wigan while great to watch was not a good day for Chimbonda as Wigan conceded 3 goals.
Players that saved me this week were; Whitehead, Lampard (or ol’ faithful as I now call him), Bent and Rooney. My goalkeeper Friedel and also Carragher collected 12 points between tham. Liverpools defence is looking very solid at the moment as is Blackburns.
Game week 13 points 47

Not a bad week, but not the best week either.
Game Week 13 preview November 17, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 7 commentsWith the internationals out of the way and a few premiership players proving their ability in front of goal, I thought I would bring you through this weekends games and some hot picks for the weekend.
Internationals
The pick of the premiership players during this international break has to be:
Luis Garcia scored a hat-trick against Slovakia that secured their place in Germany next summer. Garcia is a frustrating player to watch at times but does popup with some vital goals on occasion.
Micheal Owen with two late goals against Argentina Owen was Englands hero this week. Can he carry this form into the big weekend match of Chelsea Vs Newcastle? I say yes.
Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard both also had great games for England with Gerrard showing fantastic versatility, playing in three positions. Rooney played sublime football at times and also weighed in with a great goal.
Thierry Henry do I need to say anymore?
Djibril Cisse scores regularly for his country, will Benitez give him the chance to repeat his goal scoring against Portsmouth?
Petr Cech pulled of a magnificent save against Norway’s John Carew to seal the Czech Republic’s place at the world cup.

Charlton v Man Utd, 15:00
Chelsea v Newcastle, 15:00
Liverpool v Portsmouth, 15:00
Man City v Blackburn, 15:00
Sunderland v Aston Villa, 15:00
West Brom v Everton, 17:15
Wigan v Arsenal, 12:45Sunday, 20 November 2005
Middlesbrough v Fulham, 16:00
Tottenham v West Ham, 13:00Monday, 21 November 2005
Birmingham v Bolton, 20:00
Some very big games this weekend, with top of the table clubs meeting.
Players to watch out for are
Scott Parker and Clestine Babayaro going back to play their former club Chelsea, both will no doubt have a point to prove.
Darren Bent -Vs- Wayne Rooney I have both in my team, so i’m hoping for a high scoring game ![]()
Pascal Chimbonda playing a rejuvinated Arsenal side this week, can Chimbonda deal with Henry?
James Beattie seems to be finding his scoring boots once again.
Lock of the week!

Kevin Nolan and the entire bolton defence Playing a struggling Birmingham who have only scored 7 goals in 12 matches!!!
Good Luck this week football fans!
Game Week 12 Review November 11, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 1 comment so farChelsea had a poor week this week, despite playing some good football against Manchester United they once again conceded and unfortunately for most fantasy managers Frank Lampard didn’t score or get an assist.
Teams to keep an eye on are Bolton with five straight victorys and Wigan who continue defy the odds and sit in second place in the league.
A very average week this week with 46 points. Mainly due to Frank Lampard (Captain not scoring two goals in a game as he has done so often lately. Emre is starting to show his class with a 10 point haul this week from a goal and 3 bonus points.
Game week 12 points 46

Transfer of the week
Out
Gallas: Chelsea’s defence is looking a little shakey at the minute Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet in the premiership in 6 games.
In
Chimbonda: This week I went for a “money buy” as I like to call them, Chimbondas goal scoring prowess and Wigans staunch defence will make him an attractive buy for a lot of teams this week. So on Sunday after the Chelsea -Vs- Man Utd match I bought Chimbonda knowing that his price would soon go through the roof. It’s also worth noting the games that Wigan have coming up in the next few weeks.
Wigans Premiership run
November
Sat, 19th H Arsenal
Sat, 26th H TottenhamDecember
Sat, 3rd A Liverpool
Sat, 10th A Chelsea
Wed, 14th A Man Utd
Sat, 17th H Charlton
Mon, 26th H Man City
Wed, 28th A West Ham
Captain
I’m going to play it safe this week and keep Frank Lampard as my captain of choice
Buy of the week

Kevin Nolan In superb form recently and a prolific scorer with 7 gaols in 14 games this season in all competitions.
Other players to consider
Chimbonda Proved again that he can come up with the goods when required. But beware of the run that Wigan have coming up (see above)!
Steed Malbranque for some of the veterans of FPL you may recall that Malbranque had a superb season 03/04 and finished the season with the highest assist total of any player in the league, it looks like he is getting back to that mercurial form again.
Gamble player of the week
Peter Ramage Young Newcastle defender who has played very well since making the breakthrough into the senior team. He is fairly cheap at 3.6 (at time of writing).
Now here comes the gamble part, he may not play after the international break. Stephen Carr is back in training after have a herniea operation in germany and will likely be fit in two weeks. So what you are betting on is “Will Souness persist with Ramage at full back” You decide
This weeks predictions a subject to change based on injuries during the international period.
Game Week 11 Review November 7, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 19 commentsA pretty good week overall for me last week with 74 points
Game week 11 points 74

Transfer of the week
Out
O’Shea: in for a lot of criticism for his recent performances and a -1 just sealed his exit.
In
Carragher: Liverpools defence is looking very strong at the minute and with the and Carragher is always likely to pick up a bonus point or two along the way.
Captain
With his current goal scoring form Frank Lampard still has to be the captain of choice
Buy of the week

Carragher
Other players to consider
Chimbonda with Wigan the suprise package this year and a defensive record second to none in the premiership, Chimbonda has to be worth a punt.
Gamble player of the week
Mendieta scored two great goals against United and looks like getting back to the form which helped Valencia to the Uefa Cup and Champions league finals.
Game week 10 – review October 24, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , add a commentRelatively poor results this weekend, clocking up a measley 36 points (before bonus points)
Factors that contributed to that were that none of my strikers scored (well Drogba did but it was disallowed) and none of my defenders kept a clean sheet. Frank Lampard(captain) and Brad Friedel where my only saving graces scoring 20 of my 36 points between them.
Notable performances at the weekend came from players like Emre and Ameobi for Newcastle, Danny Murphy had 2 assists for Charlton, Boa Morte and Collins John of Fulham, Jenas for Spurs and Nakata of Bolton.
Something else to take note of is that Chelsea have conceeded goals in their last four Premiership games.
Weekend Results
Sunday
Newcastle 3 – 2 Sunderland
Bolton 2 – 0 West Brom
West Ham 2 – 1 Middlesbro
Everton 1 – 1 ChelseaSaturday
Blackburn 2 – 0 Birmingham
Arsenal 1 – 0 Man City
Aston Villa 0 – 2 Wigan
Fulham 2 – 0 Liverpool
Man Utd 1 – 1 Tottenham
Portsmouth 1 – 2 Charlton
Game week 10 points 36

Transfer of the week
Out
Smertin: consistent supplier of 2/3 points a week, but you need more then that from a midfielder.
In
Emre: has shown some great skill and guile since coming back from injury. Ran the midfield yesterday, had an assist from a corner and scored a superb free kick! 6.8 million is a bargin, buy him quick before value goes up.
Captain
Still has to be the ultra consistent Frank Lampard
Buy of the week (early recommendations)

Emre see transfer of the week (should make you some money this week too).
Other players to consider
Stelios Giannakopoulos staring to find some form again and at only 6.1 million should be well within most managers budgets.
Danny Murphy for the big spenders amongst you Murphy is still scoring points consistently, but at 9.2 million he is fairly expensive.
Collins John has scored three games in a row now.
Gamble player of the week
Nakata scored a great free kick yesterday, at only 5.8 million it’s not really a huge gamble.
Game week 10 October 21, 2005
Posted by Ed in : fantasy footy , 527 commentsIt’s gameweek 10 and things are starting to settle down, we know what players play week in week out, we know who are the on form players and we know that the super game week to put you in touch with the best in your league is just around the corner (well hopefully)!
I have had a few poor weeks lately and this is mainly due to the fact that I have had some injurys and haven’t really used my transfers in the best way possible, culminating in 3 changes to the team this week.
I’m not happy about having to make these changes but desperate times call for desperate measures.
The changes?
In Ledley King
In Dean Whitehead
In Didier DrogbaOut Paolo Ferriera
Out Anthony Le Tallac
Out Micheal Owen
Out
Ferriera: hasn’t being getting a game lately for chelsea due to injury so he had to go.
Le Tallac: is not getting to play the regular football that he envisaged when he made the move to Sunderland
Micheal Owen: is highly doubtful for the game Vs Sunderland due to a hamstring strain and it is highly unlikely that Souness will risk his £17 million striker incase he does more permanent damage.
In
Ledley King: consistent performances throughout the season so far a coupled with an assist, a goal and 3 bonus points puts him high on the form charts!
Dean Whitehead: everpresent so far this season for Mick McCarthy and has 4 assists.
Didier Drogba: finally living up to his huge price tag, Drogba has kept Crespo out of the team with 5 goals, 8 assists and 7 bonus points giving him an impressive tally of 63 points this season so far. Second only to Frank Lampard who has a phenomenal 81 already!
This weeks team

Captain
On present form this is a no-brainer Frank Lampard
Buy of the week
Yossi Benayoun in superb form for West Ham and has 2 gaols, 3 assists and 5 bonus points!
